Saying No To Bullying
I noticed my MD scolding our accountant the other day at work. She was reprimanded in an open view in front of everyone in the office. Although the correction happened in his cubicle, one would have the decency to do it behind closed doors. But what appalled me was what he said to her at the end of the conversation. He simply said to her "you are so stupid". How many of you have been put in a similar spot before? I have found myself in that position in the early stages of my career. I would have accepted a correction like that when I was much younger, but I will not stand for it now. No one has the authority to undermine people working beneath them. One sign of poor leadership is the bullying conduct where the leader attempts to get his desired results by putting someone down. It shows the insecurities of the leader. How do you assert yourself in the workplace? Standing up for yourself does not mean you are going against the management. It shows that you have self-respect and you dare to call our your leader’s mistakes.
