What do you do when a door closes?
We all start a brand new year with new visions and goals. There were many plans that I had in mind for this year, and if it had all worked out, I would have been ecstatic. Another milestone achieved. When the new strain of virus hit our neighbouring shores in early January, I was still very optimistic about the whole thing. I survived SARS and I was very hopeful that I can sail through this pandemic in the same manner. I was wrong and I found myself putting many of my aspirations on hold.
Alexander Graham Bell was quoted saying, "When one door closes, another opens, but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us." From personal experience, I have learned to let go when a door closes. When a friendship turns sour or when you did not get the job you desire, there is no way you can control the outcome. No matter how much you wanted to hold to that friendship, or wanted that dream job, it is impossible to break down a closed door. How do you feel when you encounter a closed door? Do you feel like the whole world has come to a standstill? Some people might feel like a failure when faced with a closed door. But when you step away from the negative thoughts, you come to the realization that not everything works according to your schedule.
I believe closed doors are nature's way of steering you in the right direction. Many of us feel like we have arrived and are capable of steering our lives, thank you very much. But by refusing help, we fail to see the opportunities that are right there for our picking. We don't see these doors of opportunities because we have never gone looking for them. Some of these opportunities could be something so far fetched that we would not ever have considered them. But they could turn out to be something better than what you had in mind. We need to alter our perception and realize that we have no control over some things that happen in our lives. But what can do is exercise control over our mind and carry a positive attitude no matter what happens. Instead of focusing on the closed door, we can turn our attention to what else is out there for us.
Instead of wallowing in frustration and disappointment of facing a closed door, we can now be expectant to discover the opportunities that lie ahead of us. You can steer clear of negative thoughts and free yourself from the feeling of being stuck mentality. Get positive affirmation to transform your way of thinking. Lastly, keep your heart free of clutter and at peace, so it will help you to detach yourself from negativity and enter new doors of opportunity with expectation.
